About the Cathedral

Restoration and Conservation

In 2001, concerned initially by deteriorating masonry on the southern spires, the Cathedral Chapter initiated a program to conserve and improve the physical infrastructure of the Cathedral precinct for ministry, witness, and ministry support.

The main focus of the program has been directed towards to the fabric of the Cathedral itself, with additional work undertaken to conserve the adjoining Cathedral Buildings in consultation with, and on approval by, Heritage Victoria.

The Restoration and Renewal Appeal was launched with a target of $15m for conservation and restoration and $5m for new works. During the Appeal $16.7m were raised.

Conservation needs of our beautiful building are ongoing, and we depend on the generosity of donors to maintain this historic Cathedral. In conjunction with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) we invite you to make your tax deductible donation by completing this form. All donations are most gratefully received and will benefit the maintenance and conservation of our Cathedral for future generations.
