CELEBRATING 125 YEARS OF ST. PAUL ’S CATHEDRAL

RELIGION IN PEACE & CONFLICT

Wednesday 13th April, 6.00pm to 7.30pm

Religion is often criticised for causing violence and division.

In many, communities, however, it is religious people who take risks for peace and justice where others cannot or will not.

The violence in The Solomon Islands and Bougainville are examples religious peacemaking at its finest, and costliest.

There will be a special occasion at St.Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday 13th April, 6.00pm to 7.30pm to listen to three Christians much involved in the costly struggle for peace in our region.

Jude Alfred the head of the Melanesian Brotherhood up to the end of 2004.  He was much involved in the frontline negotiations on the Solomons especially with forces on the Weather Coast .

Richard Carter the present chaplain to the Melanesian Brotherhood

Agnes Titus a Catholic lay woman from Bougainville, is at the centre of the peace movement initiated by the women of Bougainville .

There will be time to engage the speakers with questions and discussion.

Our three speakers will be attending the big UNESCO conference in Melbourne , 11-14 April on Religion in Peace and Conflict

This is a fitting part of the overall celebration of the 125th anniversary of St.Paul’s Cathedral, which is actually on April 13th!
