Getting married at St Paul's Cathedral

St Paul's Cathedral is a very popular wedding venue. This information is designed to answer your initial questions and help you decide if a St Paul's wedding would be right for you.

What type of ceremony can we have?
St Paul's is an Anglican Cathedral and marriages celebrated here follow the wedding service of the Anglican Church of Australia.

Can the bells be rung?
Yes, both before and after the service. For an extra $20 you can have an attractive certificate as a memento stating that the bells were rung for the occasion.

Are there reception facilities?
Yes. The Cathedral has a large, formal function room, the Chapter House, which is managed by Peter Rowland Catering.

Who will perform the ceremony?
Normally the Precentor or one of the Cathedral clergy. Other clergy may assist but can only celebrate the wedding if they are Anglican and if the arrangement is approved by the Cathedral.

Can divorced people marry at St Paul's?
Yes. A priest from the Cathedral will meet you and, if he or she is happy to proceed, will then seek permission from the Bishop to perform the marriage.

Do we have to be Anglican?
No, but at least one of the couple must be baptised.

What does a wedding at St Paul's cost?
One standard fee covers the celebrant, organist, verger, one large flower arrangement and administrative costs, such as preparation of government documents and certificates. Optional extras include a choir of 10 boys, bell ringing before and after the service, additional flowers and a rehearsal with organist or verger.

How do I find out more?
All wedding inquiries are handled by the Cathedral Office.
